Defund Wokism
We backed them further into the corner. Independent X School has been sending out email reminders for the holiday gift fund for faculty and staff but has been relatively quiet about giving to the Annual Fund and surprisingly quiet about transgender day and their favorite subject – “white supremacy” – with no virtue signaling communications about the Rittenhouse verdict. But with inflation at 6%, Independent X School is chomping at the bit to announce tuition increases. Don’t let them. Let’s take a page from the parents at Spence:
Brava! Out of respect for their privacy, we are not listing the names of the 120 signatories, but you New Yorkers would recognize your friends and neighbors amongst them.
Parents are catching on and finally asking – where exactly is our money going? Because it sure as hell isn’t going to educating our children. Millions in tuition, millions in giving, tens and hundreds of millions in endowments. Some of our headmasters are a whisper away from making the same salary as the Presidents of Duke and Stanford. How much is enough? Check out this little fin chart we threw together:
We know – it’s a lot to take in (click on the chart to see it in a larger format). We’ll let you analyze it a bit and get back to you in a follow-up Substack.
Parent Power
A big win this week! Check out NAIS (National Association of Independent School) member, American School in London (ASL), filled with left leaning parents yet fed up with the divisive illiberal tactics of the school:
Not coincidentally, headmaster Robin Appleby is on the Board of Trustees of NAIS. (ASL is also part of ICAISA (International Council Advancing Independent School Accreditation) – NAIS’ international wing that will likely consume NAIS at some point.)
There are no party lines when it comes to protecting our children from these abusive schools, and we are not the only ones fed up. Our kids are fed up. They’re psychologically exhausted and emotionally drained – and not because of Covid. Guess who else? The teachers. Even the woke ones. They’re not having a hard time because they have to teach our “privileged’ kids. Turns out, they are coming to the realization that dealing with these toxic and intolerant cultures some of them helped create is (not surprisingly) intolerable.
Remember, this is a fight to protect our children, but it’s also a fight to protect our institutions. Many of us went to Independent X School, and we wanted our children to have the same education and formative experiences we were fortunate to have. NAIS is intentionally dismantling the entire private school system. NAIS has waged war on our schools and our children, and it is up to us to protect them. Educate your Board. We need to disassociate from NAIS. Let’s keep it going. Our headmasters have proclaimed that whoever doesn’t like their decrees can vote with their feet. That’s not the case anymore. The rubber band is about to snap.
